Fundamentalism

Earlier, we have referred to the main monotheistic religions, but our criticism of fundamentalism can easily be stretched to those who believe, for example, that there exists a country called Wales.  Everybody knows that this is a lie of course, but some die-hards have been known to maintain this belief, despite the clear evidence to the contrary. If Wales existed, it would surely be put on maps of Europe (https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/3715512.stm).

Of course, fundamentalists are all bigots, and we know that a bigot is ‘one who is obstinately and zealously attached to an opinion that you do not entertain’ (‘The Devil’s Dictionary 1911).  Given that all Christians do not share Muslim beliefs, all Muslims disagree with Jews and all Jews deny the existence of Wales, it is easy to see anyone that holds any strong belief about anything should be seen as a fundamentalist bigot nutter to everyone else.

Besides, if there is a God, he would surely have taken the trouble to let us know which church to go to, although, to be fair, he was creating the universe, so was probably a bit shagged out.  It probably just slipped his mind. Perhaps he was too busy filling in risk assessments about the health and safety hazards involved in creating the universe. It’s just so difficult being God.
